As part of Homelessness Awareness Week, Housing Rights Service is informing the public about a new process for challenging the Housing Executive’s homelessness decisions. Ursula Toner, Legal Advice Services Manager, with Housing Rights Service, said “Nearly half of the households that made homelessness applications last year were refused homelessness status by the Housing Executive. From 1st December there is a new system for challenging unsuccessful homelessness decisions through review by the Housing Executive and then appeal to the county court.. Strict time limits will apply; a homeless applicant will have to request a review of their negative decision within 28 days of receiving notification.” Miss Toner continued: “As this new system beds in, we would urge anyone who wants to challenge a negative decision to contact Housing Rights Service for free independent advice and assistance.” If you need advice on homelessness or any other housing issue, please get in touch with us. |
