The 40th Anniversary Commemorative Booklet outlines the challenging and positive history of Housing Rights Service to those who may not have been aware of our work over the past 40 years in a comprehensive and easy to read publication.
Background
The 40th Anniversary Commemorative Booklet is part of a series of events and projects undertaken to mark the 40th anniversary of Housing Rights Service. Having had a number of name changes over the years, the booklet raises awareness of our work over the past 40 years to assist people in Northern Ireland who are homeless or in housing need.
The booklet also examines the development of the organisation against the backdrop of what was happening locally and nationally; not only in the housing sphere but also in the context of wider:
- social,
- economic, and
- political issues.
The booklet explains the journey to our position as the leading provider of specialist independent housing advice in Northern Ireland.
Contents
The publication was researched, written and designed in-house by our Information Officer and Administration Officer. Extensive research was carried out in:
- the Public Records Office,
- the Housing Executive's library,
- the Special Collection at the Queen's University of Belfast, and
- Belfast Central library.
The booklet also includes extensive interviews with:
- founding members
- past managers
- past chairpersons, and
- former staff and volunteers
These personal insights give a flavour of the work of the organisation at different periods of our history.
