Welcome to our first e-bulletin of 2011

Policy

The Department for Social Development has launched its draft budget for consultation.  The closing date for responses is February 9. 

As well as responding to the budget, Housing Rights Service will be providing evidence to the Social Development Committee. 

Alex Attwood MLA, Minister for Social Development has organised a series of meetings designed to discuss the impact of the draft Budget with voluntary and community organisations. Download details of the consultations.   

Housing Rights Service will be submitting our response to the Access to Justice Review . The closing date for submissions is 31 January.

Our policy priorities for 2011/2012 are now available.

Legislation

The Introductory Tenancies (Abandonment Notice) Regulations (NI) 2010 and the Introductory Tenancies (Abandoned Property) Order (NI) 2010 came into effect on the 17 December 2010.

Mr R McCartney asked the Minister for Social Development about a review of the current points system for the allocation of social housing.

Rev Dr R Coulter asked the Minister whether he intended to implement changes under welfare reform within the same timeframe as proposed by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Events

 

We will be holding a policy conference examining “Why affordable credit matters” at the Crescent Arts Centre Belfast on 10 March.  This free one day event will look in detail at this pressing issue.  If you would like to register your interest in attending email diane@housingrights.org.uk
