Housing Advice Training Programme Print E-mail

The Housing Advice Training Programme course has been extensively reviewed and updated for Autumn 2010. The revised course will feature new learning outcomes and coursework.

The Housing Advice Training Programme is a 6 day course designed to enable those working in the housing arena to gain a qualification which enhances the skills and knowledge necessary to provide comprehensive housing advice.

The aim of the programme is to provide participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and information to enable them to have an increased role in housing and advocacy in Northern Ireland and covers topics listed below:

  • Introduction to Housing Law
  • Social Housing
  • Homelessness
  • Rights and Responsibilities of Social Tenants & Landlords
  • Private Rented Sector
  • Financing Accommodation through Housing Benefit

The course will meet the training needs of

  • generalist advice workers
  • NIHE & housing association staff,
  • other statutory agencies such as Environmental Health Departments & Social Services
  • solicitors
  • community/residents groups

Participants will attend training one day per week and also be required to undertake additional study hours and work based learning tasks such as case studies and research activities to build their portfolio of evidence. To assist in achieving this, participants will have the support of the lead tutor and a specialist casework adviser

 

Dates

Belfast: 22nd September 2010 - 27th October 2010, (every Wednesday)

16th February 2011 - 23rd March 2011, (every Wednesday)

Derry/Londonderry: 20th April 2011 - 25th May 2011, (every Wednesday)
