Mental Health & Housing Print E-mail

Research has shown that one in four people will suffer from poor mental health at sometime in their lives.  A range of services, both statutory and voluntary, are available to help a person to recover from mental ill health, and a safe and secure home is a foundation upon which recovery must be built.

This course looks at the difficulties that those affected by mental ill health can experience with regards to accessing and maintaining housing and will explore how these issues may be overcome.

In particular the course will focus on:

  • Common forms of mental illness and their symptoms
  • Legislation applying to those affected by mental ill health
  • Statutory and support services available to those affected by mental ill health
  • Main challenges facing those affected by mental ill health in regards accessing and maintaining accommodation in both public and private sectors
  • Support available to those affected by mental ill health in accessing and maintaining accommodation



Who Should Attend?
This course is essential for anyone providing housing advice or support to clients either suffering from, or at risk of, mental ill health – including advisers, community workers, social workers, hostel staff, health professionals and housing officers.
