Housing issues for migrant workers Print E-mail

Migrant workers are non UK nationals who come to the UK for the primary purpose of work.  There are a number of distinct categories of Migrant Workers, each with different rights to work and reside in the UK depending on their country of origin, immigration status and economic status.  This has an impact on their right to housing.

The aim of this one day course is to enable participants to explore the issues regarding migrant workers and housing in Northern Ireland. In particular, the course will focus on the issues and concerns for migrant workers in accessing and maintaining accommodation in the social rented sector.

The course will include:

  • Categories of migrant workers
  • Housing options for migrant workers
  • Eligibility for social rented accommodation (including temporary accommodation)
  • Assessment of points under the Selection Scheme
  • Other housing options

Who Should Attend?

This course will be of particular interest to welfare rights/housing advisers and other voluntary and statutory sector workers who work with and advise members of minority ethnic groups in Northern Ireland.

All Housing Rights Service courses count towards CPD requirements for members of the Legal and Environmental Health professions.
