Private Rented Sector

Many households in Northern Ireland live in accommodation which they rent from a private landlord.  In many instances they may require help and advice on a range of issues such as:

• What rights do I have?
• Who has responsibilities for repairs?
• Will I get help with my rent?

The aim of this course is to ensure participants have the skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive advice to those renting in the private sector.

Homelessness & Selection Scheme

Advising a person who wishes to apply for social housing requires a knowledge and understanding of both the Housing (NI) Order 1988 (the ‘homelessness’ legislation) and of the Selection Scheme.

This one day course will enable advisers to gain a thorough knowledge of the ‘homeless’ legislation and the Selection Scheme, including the changes brought about by the Housing (NI) Order 2003.

Housing debt

Clients who are experiencing financial difficulties may struggle to meet their mortgage or rental payments which may put their home at risk.  Such clients need practical and effective advice to prevent them losing their home. 

This course looks specifically at the important role that can be played by the adviser in dealing with housing debt.

Anti-Social behaviour

Anti-Social behaviour can take a variety of forms and may disrupt the lives of many people.  Whole communities can be affected by the actions of a few and such activities are a cause of concern for residents and landlords alike.

The aim of this course is to enable participants to gain an awareness of the range of anti social behaviour and consider the role and responsibilities of agencies in dealing with complaints.

Accessing housing for young people

Young people may choose to leave home and live independently for a variety of reasons.  The purpose of this course is to highlight the various agencies which have a responsibility towards young people (aged 16-25), and the level of assistance a young person is entitled to in order that s/he may access secure, permanent, affordable accommodation. The course will also consider the impact of legislation and policy on housing and young people.
