This is the second in our series of sessions taking a deeper look at how Universal Credit will affect tenants, homeowners and landlords.

In this session we focus on how assistance with housing costs will differ under the new regime. The course will provide attendees with detailed information and the legislative authority for relevant changes including:

  • Types of accommodation which will continue to be assessed under Housing Benefit
  • Which claimants will be exempt from the requirement to serve waiting days
  • How assessment and payment cycles will change
  • Backdating provisions under Universal Credit
  • Changes to the occupation condition
  • Assistance with housing costs for young people
  • Removal of key protections for private tenants
  • New non-dependent rules
  • Direct deductions from Universal Credit to pay for arrears
  • DFC plans to create a new rates rebate system to assist UC claimants with rate payments
