Housing Rights welcomes the news that the forthcoming Northern Ireland Executive Programme for Government will include housing as 1 of 9 priority areas.
Since 2016, Housing Rights has been advocating for a standalone housing outcome to be included in the Programme for Government with our partners at CIHNI, NIFHA and Homeless Connect.
Speaking about the announcement, Housing Rights’ Chief Executive, Kate McCauley said:
“It is a very encouraging step forward that the supply of social and affordable housing will be included as a priority area in the next Programme for Government. The extent of the housing crisis requires a robust and cross-governmental response; this news is a welcome signal that the NI Executive agrees.
It is imperative now that ambition is matched by delivery and critically that people’s experience of housing problems improves as a result. We look forward to reviewing the draft Programme for Government in detail and providing a response to help shape the NI Executive’s plans going forward."
Housing Rights looks forward to the publication of the full Programme for Government in the coming days. We are committed to working with our political representatives to achieve a society where everyone has a home.
