A new system for the regulation and licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation came into force on 1st April 2019. The DfC has made subordinate regulations, including a Code of Practice for landlords and HMO managers, which will give effect to the Houses in Multiple Occuation Act (NI) 2016. The Department has been meeting with the Housing Executive and local councils to ensure that systems are in place to allow this new regime to commence in a few weeks.
Objectives of the course
This course will cover an introduction to the original 2016 Act, an overview of the new Regulations as well as the Code of Practice written to support HMO landlords and managers. It will highlight the key changes between the old system and the new regime and will explain what property managers need to do in order to comply with the new Act and Regulations The session will also discuss revised standards, definitions and enforcement procedures.
